SOIL SCIENCE SOCIETY TURKEY AS A NATIONAL STAKEHOLDER SUPPORTING EUROPEAN JOINT PROGRAM ON AGRICULTURAL SOIL MANAGEMENT-EJP SOIL

EUROPEAN UNION HORIZON 2020 JOINT PROGRAM ON AGRICULTURAL SOIL MANAGEMENT STARTED

Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies participated in “The European Joint Program on Agricultural Soil Management-EJP Soil” whose preparation have been continuing since 2018 as the county program manager. Program activities started as of 26th February 2020. The EJP SOIL consortium comprises 26 partners from 24 countries. The program which will be funded by European Union between 2020-2024 and will be carried out under coordination of French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE). Together with the European Commission, the partners have a joint budget (80M€) and participating countries are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and United Kingdom. EJP Soil aims to create an enabling environment that will enhance the contribution of agricultural soils to key societal challenges, including climate change adaptation and mitigation, sustainable agricultural production, ecosystem services provision and restoration and prevention of land and soil degradation. In addition, it is another goal of the program to create a sustainable environment for research groups working on related aspects of agricultural soil management and to strengthen soil research by focusing on sustainable agricultural soil management. The European Joint Program will include joint programming and execution of research and other joint integrative activities such as education and training (e.g. short-term missions, workshops), knowledge management, access to experimental facilities and databases, including also harmonization, standardization.
